Contemplating Stitch
August 15, 2018 by Linda A. Miller“When my mind quiets and my attention is on my hands, needles, and yarn, the world opens.”

Revisiting my stitch meditations, I wanted to share on this new blog a selection completed in recent months. I consider this work to be a contemplative practice. What, you might ask, is a contemplative practice? I define it as an activity that is approached meditatively, that calms the mind and brings my senses back to a direct experience of what is going on in the moment. There is no goal just process. With these pieces I let myself be aware of each stitch, feeling needle on the cloth… very renewing.
I learned about stitch meditations in the Creative Strength Training course I am taking. Jane Dunnewold had shared this video by Liz Kettle and her stitching. I loved it and made it my own. Try it for yourself!
Another take on the idea of contemplative art with knitting in this article by Jennifer Urban-Brown- “Zen Mind, Knitting Mind”.
Enjoy!
